Rango Review

Yesterday I took a trip into the unknown.  That’s right sports fans, I went to Esquire Theatre to watch the new animated film, Rango.  What happened next was totally unexpected, “This was the best western since Tombstone.”

The best part of this movie is the fact that I could watch it without the retard glasses, aka 3D.  Rango to me was a mix of Tombstone and Blazing saddles.  A classic western tale of an underdog sheriff set to rescue a town in desperate need of help.

The main character is a lizard, voiced by Johnny Depp. Your average everday aquarium type lizard that is thrust into an extraordinary situation.  He is tasked with bringing civilization to Dirt, a Western town filled with scaly villains that is desperately running short on water.

The look and feel of the town of Dirt and the entire film is authentic and wonderful.  From the old time Saloons to the tumbleweed tumbling through the cacti filled desert, Rango is spot on.  The animation is fantastic to boot.  Every detail, from the scales on Rattlesnake Jake to the feathers on the Hawk, the movie couldn’t look any better.

Sitting in the theatre on my second bag of popcorn, I lost track that I was sitting next to a seven year-old in a kids movie.  Bullets buzzing about, explosions, adult crude humor, a great story, (not to sound like a broken record) and a vintage Cowboy film feel kept me entertained from the opening credits to the very end.

All in all, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.  Going in expecting nothing, it was one rootin tootin good scene after another.  Bueno Joe would definitely recommend Rango to any parent, kid, young adult or homeless midget. Check out the score….
